James River’s JV girl’s soccer team had another great season this spring. Out of 12 games they won 11. Their one loss was against their biggest competitor, Cosby High School.

Their game against Cosby’s team was on Tuesday, April 5th at Cosby High School. It was a close game, the score was tied 2-2 and Cosby scored in the last 10 minutes, making the final score 3-2.

Everyday after school, except some Fridays, the girls practiced on the field hockey field and their games took place on the football field. Practices began with a warm-up, then they practiced juggling and split into teams to scrimmage each other.

The team was coached by  P.E. teacher Kieley Thomas, and the three sophomore captains were Erin Siedlecki, Katie Schneider, and Hannah Ward

“Getting to know the girls on a personal basis was fun and we had a successful season which made it even more fun,” Coach Thomas said.

The team consisted of 17  freshmen and sophomores, most of which play for other out of school clubs. Jessica Gregory is a freshman on the team. She also plays on a travel team for FC Richmond.

“I like playing school soccer because it helps me make new friends who enjoy the same thing I do and learn more tactics from a different point of view,” Gregory said.
As the season came to a close, most of the girls go back to playing for their travel or recreational teams to keep themselves in shape for another great season next spring.
